Description
This charming set of three Wade England pottery barrels was made for Sherry, Port, and Gin. These ceramic barrels were popular in British homes and pubs in the mid-20th century, serving as decorative decanters or spirit dispensers. Their classic cream glaze, bold dark lettering, and ribbed design make them an eye-catching addition to any vintage bar or kitchen display.
Each barrel has a slightly rounded shape, replicating the look of wooden spirit casks. They are functional yet decorative, making them perfect for collectors of vintage barware or Wade pottery.

About Wade Ceramics
Wade Ceramics was founded in 1810 and became a leading name in British pottery. Known for producing high-quality porcelain and earthenware, Wade made a variety of items, from industrial ceramics to decorative household pieces.
The company introduced Royal Victoria Pottery, which produced many of Wade’s barware items, including these barrels. Wade remained in operation for over 200 years, closing in 2022 due to financial difficulties.
Collectability
Wade pottery barrels are popular among collectors, especially sets featuring multiple barrels in well-preserved condition.
As Wade Ceramics has now ceased production, original vintage pieces are becoming harder to find. This set is an excellent example of classic British barware, appealing to those who collect mid-century ceramics and home decor.
How This Item Was Made
These barrels were produced using traditional ceramic moulding techniques. The body was formed, then coated in a smooth glaze before firing. The lettering was applied using transfer printing, ensuring a consistent and bold design. The result is a durable yet stylish ceramic piece, built to last.
Additional Notes
- Designed to resemble wooden casks, adding to their vintage appeal.
- Wade also produced similar barrels for Scotch, Brandy, and Rum, making this a part of a broader collectible range.
- Perfect for display or repurposing as decorative storage for small items.
Recommendations for Care
- Hand wash only using mild soap and warm water. Avoid harsh abrasives that could damage the glaze.
- Do not place in the dishwasher, as high heat can cause crazing or fading.
- Store in a cool, dry place to prevent any further age-related wear.
