Condition & Quality Rating

About Bunnykins & Barbara Vernon

Bunnykins was introduced by Royal Doulton in 1934, quickly becoming a favourite for children’s tableware. The illustrations were created by Barbara Vernon, a nun and the daughter of Royal Doulton’s managing director. Her playful and detailed scenes of rabbit families made Bunnykins a cherished collectible worldwide.

Barbara Vernon’s original hand-drawn designs are highly sought after, as later Bunnykins artwork was produced using transfers rather than hand-painting.

Collectability

Bunnykins tableware remains one of Royal Doulton’s most iconic and collectible series. Pieces from the 1950s-1970s, especially those signed by Barbara Vernon, are highly valued by collectors.

Additional Notes

  • The “Digging in the Garden” scene is one of the more detailed and rare Bunnykins illustrations.
  • Royal Doulton Bunnykins pieces were even used by Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret as children, further cementing their legacy.

Recommendations for Care

  • Hand wash only using mild soap and warm water. Avoid soaking or scrubbing harshly.
  • Do not place in the dishwasher, as the high heat may damage the hand-painted details.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the colours and glaze.
